Dragon Boat
Dragon Boat
Something wonderful happened to us DracHEnknABBen this year.
After the difficult preliminary rounds the day before, we had to go through the qualification.
We won this race and so we were in the quarter finals of the Ladenburg 🐉Boat Festival… with the second fastest time of the runners-up we were able to reach the semi-finals and so after that it was all or nothing…
... and so it happened that we defeated the defending champion, won the semi-final and were allowed to start in the final for the first time.
Here we recognize the superiority of the winning Cube Dragons, they can easily compete in the Open class and paddled with the CBG Legends for second place.
They were just ahead of us and so we celebrate our first third place like winners!
And once again the DracHEnknABBen have made history in Heidelberg.
6th place out of 26 boats is already great, but it was the finish in the small final for 4th place that even made the moderators say:
“Stefan, have you ever seen such a close race in your life?”
The DracHEnknABBen were successful again in Heidelberg and Ladenburg!
Two years of pandemic and no racing!
But many clubs have started 2022 with hope again and just like these clubs, 2022 was a great and successful year for our DracHEnknABBen.
With partly experienced and partly newWe were more successful than ever before and the atmosphere was also never as consistently positive as it was this year. Both in the training sessions beforehand and during the race days, all of the DracHEnknABBen were energetically together - great!
In Heidelberg and Ladenburg, unexpected and phenomenal results were achieved. The togetherness and being together was as if the Corona period had never happened... our warmth, this sincerity, this wonderful partnership and joy!
In addition, we achieved times that had never been achieved before! In Ladenburg, we DracHEnknABBen made it to the semi-finals for the second time. We came third there, but overall we saw that we came 4th overall and basically only lost to the eventual overall winners and overall runners-up in this race. The very best thing was - we beat the dragon boat series winners CGB Legends, who came in 5th place with honor :-)
Things went even better in Heidelberg. Our team finished in a fantastic second place and we once again held a fantastic dragon boat trophy in our hands.
The first start was in Heidelberg on July 2nd. Still a little nervous before the first race in 2022, the DracHEnknABBen started the first heat with the second best time. This year there was no wind and hardly any current, except a little in the middle. With this great start, the whole team got rolling with great motivation and so the DracHEnknABBen got further and further in the tournament. In the end, they were not far off and only narrowly missed the winner's trophy. Nevertheless, a close and strong 2nd place that everyone could be happy with.
This great feeling was then taken back to Ladenburg two weeks later. And the atmosphere was great! In the first heat, the fifth fastest time of all dragon boat teams in the mixed category (at least 6 women must paddle in the boat). The great supporting program provided food and drink and a great atmosphere, and so our team managed to finish 5th in both heats. This meant that for the very first time, our DracHEnknABBen did not have to take part in a qualifying heat on Sunday in order to make it to the quarter-finals.
Our times kept getting better and so we managed to finish 4th in the semi-finals despite the headwind and the slight current. Our best placing in Ladenburg so far!
We can therefore conclude that 2022 was a very successful year for our dragon boat team and we are already planning for next year's races. The dates in Ladenburg and Heidelberg will be announced on our website.
Rückblick 2020
What an "educational" day!
The DrachenknABBen started their 2020 season by participating in the 6th Indoor Cup in Mannheim on February 8th, 2020.
A completely new experience awaited us and pure strength against our technology was the deciding factor in us coming home in 13th place. Six races in one day! The races or tests of strength lasted between 10 and 60 seconds ;-)
Everyone pushed themselves to their physical and mental limits. Because we had no chance against powerful cars that weighed an average of 20-30 kg more than us!
Experience counts and we were happy to have some fun as a training program and kick-off.
(And of course a few bruises again)
We had fun?
Clear!
Rückblick 2019
The DrachenknABBen were successful again in Heidelberg and Ladenburg!
2019 is the year of our DrachenknABBen. Phenomenal results were achieved in both Heidelberg and Ladenburg. Times that have never been achieved before! In Ladenburg, our DrachenknABBen made it to the semi-finals for the first time. There they had a super exciting race against the eventual overall winners and overall runners-up and ended up finishing a well-deserved 5th. Things went even better in Heidelberg. Our team ended up in a great 4th place. They only just missed the podium places. The small trophy for 4th place is a good consolation!
The first start was in Heidelberg on July 6th. Still a little nervous before the first race of 2019, the DrachenknABBen started the first heat with the best time. After just 1:08.05 minutes, our team's boat crossed the finish line. In previous years, they were about 4-5 seconds slower. With this great start, the whole team got rolling and the DrachenknABBen got further and further in the tournament. In the end, they were not far off and only just missed out on a medal. Nevertheless, a confident 4th place that everyone could be happy with, because the race for 4th place was won by more than a boat length.
This great feeling was then taken to Ladenburg the following week. But even though the atmosphere was great, the second fastest time of all 23 dragon boat teams was achieved in the first heat and there was a great supporting program, our team "only" managed 7th place in the total of both heats. Our dragon boys therefore had to take part in a qualifying heat on Sunday to make it into the quarter-finals, which they did with ease. But the time! For the first time, the 250m with the dragon boat was paddled in under 58 seconds and almost under 57 seconds. The time was exact: 57.22 seconds!
In the quarter finals they won their heat by almost a second ahead of everyone else and finished their race with a time of 1:00.90. Unfortunately, this extra run meant that they didn't have the strength to make it to the big final. Nevertheless, our team still had a great race and finished the 15th Ladenburg Dragon Boat Tournament in a successful 5th place.
We can therefore conclude that 2019 was a very successful year for our dragon boat team and we are already planning for next year's races. You should definitely keep the dates free! The race in Ladenburg will take place next year from July 24th to 26th. The date in Heidelberg will be announced on our website.

Rückblick 2028 Mannheim
What a beautiful day!
Although the weather showed its different sides, it was pleasantly warm and the clothes dried again when they got wet from below or above :-). The mood in the club area of theWSV Sandhofenwas very good and was constantly livened up with musical interludes from two young bands. The food was also excellent.
Special thanks go to Joe and Kurt for setting up the tent and the beer bench sets. THANK YOU!!
Four races in one day! 250m each with 12 paddlers and our drummer.
Everyone pushed themselves to their physical and mental limits. Our team said goodbye to this year's active dragon boat season with a strong improvement in performance in the 3rd and final races for 4th place.
The reward was an excellent 6th place out of 12 teams. After all, there were boats in the Fun class that compete in the Open class in Ladenburg or Heidelberg. And if we look at the times, we won the final race for 4th place by just 3 and 4 seconds respectively, then it was really close. 0.66 seconds for 4th place! A time credit of 1 second was calculated for each woman and so the boats remained within one second in the net time calculation!
We celebrate with a triple Good - Fun! Good - Fun! Good - Fun!
Now it’s time to plan and invite people to the end-of-year meeting.
Here are some nice souvenir photos:
Rückblick 2018 Heidelberg
With 3rd place out of 22 dragon boat teams, Heidelberg was once again a huge success for us DrachenknABBen
Yes - we have the trophy!
With the third fastest time in each of the two preliminary heats, we secured the final race for places 1, 2 and 3. That was our goal for today and we achieved it together. Happy faces everywhere :-)
Shortly after 4pm the showdown came and it was an exciting race. ISSW (sports students) narrowly won, ahead of Fiitplusi (fitness team) and the DrachenknABBen.
Now we look ahead, because in 2 weeks the motto in Mannheim will be "Are you ready - Attention - Go".
Rückblick 2018 Ladenburg
Ladenburg
At the Ladenburg Dragon Boat Festival from June 30th to July 1st, 2018, the DrachenknABBen had their best Saturday ever!
With the 10th and then 5th best race times, we came in under 2 minutes in the two heats! That was 6th place overall after the heats! Sunday was supposed to be our day. In the qualifying race against the "Tiger and Dragon" and "Die Ente bleibt im Wasser" we were supposed to make it to the quarter finals. But things turned out differently. The "Tiger and Dragon" team improved by around 3 seconds compared to the previous day and snatched victory from us by 26 hundredths of a second. Since no fastest team made it to the quarter finals this year, that was our last race for this year in Ladenburg. The positive thing was that we stayed under a minute again in the race and had the 6th fastest running time of all the teams again. So with two 6th fastest times we didn't make it into the top 12 - hmm. What a pity!
Now it's time to take the good energy with us to Heidelberg, where we have another chance to win a trophy on Saturday 7 July!

Review 2017: After the competition is before the competition!
The season ended this weekend in Heidelberg!
This year we again had sporting competitions at the dragon boat races in Ladenburg and Heidelberg with other company, private or sports teams. Fun in the dragon boat family with the active paddlers and relatives & friends!
After narrowly missing the finals in Ladenburg due to the weather (8 hundredths of a second short), the coveted trophy for third place was brought home to ABB in Heidelberg! In total, we paddled to victory 5 times in 6 races in Ladenburg and Heidelberg!
Cheered on by our families, friends and spectators, it was a great communal experience for us.
In order to refresh our memories and plan the new season, we will be inviting everyone to a meeting in late summer. We will announce the date in good time!
Your organization team!
Every year in Heidelberg, one team is selected from all participating teams to receive the performance award for presentation, atmosphere, performance, etc.
This year we were given this honor!
THANKS especially to our children's holiday home in Schapbach!
With the great support of Heike Armbruster and her team, we have “digitized” our kite. For our kite, it is version “2” under the ABB flag Industry 4.0!
We, the DrachenknABBen, meet from the end of March to the end of July in Ladenburg or Heidelberg for training. The dates and location are announced in advance by the organization team. At the start and end of the season we always hold our legendary team events. That means a barbecue on the banks of the Neckar in Ladenburg and Christmas dinner in a pub in Mannheim or the surrounding area.
The training takes place in the weeks before the race weekends for around 1.5 hours each day after work. This is where the technique is practiced, endurance is trained and some race simulations are carried out. The team must consist of 6 women and 12 men at the start of the race. The battle calls and the rhythm for the paddle strokes come from the front of the dragon boat and are set by the drummer. That is why the motto is "In the boat I become submissive!"
Anyone who wants to join in the paddling (and partying) is very welcome.
PS: A special highlight are our costumes and mascots, which we designed and made together with the Schapbach children's holiday home. For example, our offshore wind turbine in 2015 or the sensationally cute, large, colorful kite in 2016! Thanks to the whole KFH Schapbach team and of course to the children!
